Lilith Simon

A month after the pumpkin soup, I was rummaging : (1)  through our desk drawers to find the money I had stashed : (2) years ago in case of an emergency. I wanted to buy my wife a gift. Thats when I found the leather-bound journal. I didnt know : (3) whom it belonged to and how it got there so I opened it and saw my wifes name written on the very first page. I closed it and put it back, then I noticed that a small note had fallen out of it. I picked it up and read the name Lilith Simon. I knew everyone in our village and I was certain that this Lilith person wasnt from around here. I turned the note around and saw a map drawn that lead to a small village about an hour away from ours. I had never been there, and only heard stories about the people that lived there. Most of the stories were exaggerated, that I knew, but I couldnt help feeling a sense of fear that arose from the thought of Cobweb Meadow. I had to find out who Lilith is, and why my wife had directions to her house.
I told my wife I was going on a hunting trip that same day, and would be back later in the evening. I set off to Cobweb Meadow, prepared for the worst. I had a pistol in my duffel bag that I hoped I wouldnt have to use.

Conditional Sentence / If-Clauses Type I, II and III

Conditional Sentences are also known as Conditional Clauses or If Clauses. They are use to express that the action in the main clause (without if) can only take place if a certain condition (in the clause with if) is fullfiled. There are 3 types of Conditional Sentences.
Uses of the Conditional Sentences

First conditional

Nature: Open condition, what is said in the condition is possible.
Time: This condition refers either to present or to future time.
e.g. If he is late, we will have to go without him.
If my mother knows about this, we are in serious trouble.

Second conditional

Nature: unreal (impossible) or improbable situations.
Time: present; the TENSE is past, but we are talking about the present, now.
e.g. If I knew her name, I would tell you.
If I were you, I would tell my father.
Compare: If I become president, I will change the social security system. (Said by a presidential candidate)
If I became president, I would change the social security system. (Said by a schoolboy: improbable)

If we win this match, we are qualified for the semifinals.

If I won a million pounds, I would stop teaching. (improbable)
1. First conditional: If I have enough money, I will go to Japan.

2. Second conditional:If I had enough money, I would go to Japan.

3. Third conditional:If I had had enough money, I would have gone to Japan.
Conditional Clause and Main Clause

If I have enough money, (conditional clause) I will go to Japan.(main clause)

I will go to Japan, (main clause) if I have enough money. (conditional clause)

He is also on the committee for the League Managers Association in an executive capacity.
Moyes made over 540 league appearances as a centre-half in a playing career that began with Celtic, where he won a championship medal. He then played for Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town and Dunfermline Athletic before ending his playing career with Preston North End. He became a coach at Preston, working his way up to assistant manager before eventually taking over as manager in 1998, his first managerial position.
Moyes became manager of Everton in March 2002 and under him the club qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and reached the FA Cup final in 2009. Upon reaching his tenth anniversary at the club Moyes received praise from many fellow managers including Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger and Kenny Dalglish for his achievements at Everton. His service to Everton was also raised in Parliament by Steve Rotheram MP. During his spell at Everton, he received the nickname "Dithering Dave" from fans.
Following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement as Manchester United manager after 26 years in the position, Moyes was appointed his successor. He began his post as Manchester United manager on 1 July 2013, on a six-year contract.

MS. PASSANA PONG
The Administrative Officer
The Royal Thai Embassy in Manila

Dear Ms. Pong:

I am a Communications graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman with several years of working experience gained from some of the Philippines’ reputable private firms, a non-governmental organization, and government.

I am writing to apply for the position of Executive Assistant advertised on jobstreet.com.ph on 10 May 2010. This position particularly interests me because it would enable me to make full use of my administrative and organizational skills. I have well-developed written and oral communication skills that can be very useful in carrying out the duties for the above-mentioned position.

On top of these competencies, I adhere to a work ethic and can effectively interact with people across all levels of the organizational structure. I believe I can be an asset to your organization.

My resume is enclosed with this cover letter. It shows my overall expertise and experience in the field. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my suitability for the position and comply with your other requirements. I can be contacted during working hours at (632) 857-0100 local 1101.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
ADE IWAN
Applicant

Sample of Complaining Letter

We are writing to express our displeasure with your report on our Youth Bible Conference. First of all, it was not limited to a "fringe group" of one particular religion, but had the support and participation of all Protestant groups in the State. Nothing was said about the study sessions, talks, and publications that came out of the meetings. In fact, your broadcast seemed to focus on one unfortunate incident in which a homeless man had an altercation with a security guard. This was hardly what the conference was about. In all, your coverage was so inaccurate that it could lead one to believe that your station has significant prejudice against religious groups, regardless of their activities.

An apology is in order. You should consider the ramifications of such irresponsible reporting, which will surely not go unnoticed by the public. As for the undersigned and the hundreds who were in attendance, we have lost confidence in the credibility of your news reports. We hope you are interested in regaining this confidence and look forward to your correcting the problem.

January 2, 2011
Jane Smith, Executive Director
Xavier Foundation
555 S. Smith St.
Washington, D.C. 22222

Dear Ms. Smith,
I am writing to inquire whether the Xavier Foundation would invite a proposal from the Virtual Community Group, Inc., requesting an investment of $50,000 per year over two years to support our Enterprise 2000 initiative. This grant would provide part of the funds needed for us to train at least 1200 low-income entrepreneurs in rural New Hampshire in the computer skills they need to create sustainable businesses as we enter the twenty-first century. Your literature indicates that the Xavier Foundation is searching for innovative ideas to improve the lives of the rural poor; we believe Enterprise 2000 falls well within your area of interest.
Information technologies are a promising solution to one of the primary obstacles facing the small rural enterprise: the geographic distances which inhibit networking with other businesses, and which segregate them from a larger marketplace. The Internet and other networks are now making it possible for entrepreneurs even in the most remote locations to communicate and do business on a region-wide, national, or even international basis. Working in conjunction with other organizations, Enterprise 2000 gives program participants technical skills training adapted to individual need; and, in collaboration with organizations which recondition and redistribute used computers, we also assure that they obtain the necessary computer hardware, at low or no cost.
We believe that broadly-implemented technical skills programs such as Enterprise 2000 have the potential to transform the lives of many struggling entrepreneurs, and change the economic landscape of impoverished rural communities. Unlike many poverty alleviation initiatives, all of the Virtual Community Group programs are predicated on the assumption that these entrepreneurs already have 90% of what it takes to compete in the marketplace -- intelligence, ambition, initiative, and talent. After two years of experimentation and program development, the Virtual Community Group has fashioned a superb, easily replicable model in Enterprise 2000, and established a high degree of credibility among community groups, policy makers, and funders. With your support, we can make that 10% difference in the lives of these hard-working people and the future of our rural communities.
Please feel free to call me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Executive Director
